If you are a UNISON member and under 27 years of age you are automatically entitled to participate as a young member.
Get in touch with Bobbi Quinn to join the group of young members in Southampton District branch, to discuss your experiences as a young worker, and find out about activities for young members.
You can also get involved as a UNISON young member within the South East region, and nationally. The national young members forum looks at issues affecting young members in UNISON, and how to go about improving recruitment and organisation of young members. It makes sure young members concerns are raised at the highest level, and in all parts of the union.
Meet Your Officer:
Hi! My name is Bobbi and I work in the employability team at Solent University, helping students achieve their employability and enterprise ambitions.
I’m particularly interested in widening participation and the ways in which we can support students from a disadvantaged background. My interests outside of work include going to the gym ridiculously early in the morning, learning to sew (I’m 5ft so nothing store-bought fits me) and browsing charity shops and boot sales for second hand bargains.
As the Young Members Officer for our branch, my vision is to create a community of young members where we can together establish the priorities of young people, give ourselves a voice on the issues that mean most to us, and create change around these issues.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
If I could give my younger self one line of advice, it would be: don’t let a lack of confidence stop you from going for something – if you don’t try, you’ll never know!
